Nancy Reuben Primary School

Welcome From The Head Teacher
Together We Grow!

Welcome to Nancy Reuben Primary School!

Our school motto is "Together We Grow" and we are the most incredibly friendly and cohesive school community comprising staff, parents, children and governors all sharing the same common goal to be the best we can.  We really do grow together and together, we achieve more!  Every child is great at something and our job as teachers is to find out what and nurture it.  This starts the moment a child commences at NRPS.  We work closely alongside parents as partners in your child’s education.  As a staff, we hope that you will become friends as we move through school together supporting your child as they grow together with us.

This website gives a taster of the school but to find out more, we invite you to come and see first-hand.  It will be my pleasure to show you around and happily answer your questions.  You will experience the unique warmth that pervades our school for which Nancy Reuben Primary School has become so well known for more than 20 years.

Our pupils are very important to us and so, as well as prioritising academic progress in Kodesh and secular, we constantly strive to make sure that pupils develop socially in terms of self esteem and confidence.   Staff-pupil relationships are outstanding and put simply, every child is very well looked after and nurtured from the second they arrive.   As Head, I am very high profile in the school and I take a keen personal interest in the welfare and well-being of every child from Playgroup to Year 6.  I know them all very well!   Our proactive Governing Body supports us in our work.

Our pupils' excellent attainment and our school's supportive and nurturing ethos, ensures that Year 6  pupils transition successfully onto secondary schools of choice where we know they thrive academically and socially.   Our Summer 2022 cohort of Year 6 pupils transferred in the State Sector to Hasmonean Multi Academy Trust School for Boys and Girls, JfS, Yavne College and in the Independent Sector to  Habs Boys' and Immanuel College, where a number of pupils were awarded Academic or Jewish Life and Learning Scholarships.

Through our Kodesh and secular curriculum,  I want our children to be reflective as learners, innovative and equipped to deal with challenge,  learn from mistakes, be able to work with their own information and ideas as well as those of others, engage socially, take responsibility for themselves, be responsive to and respectful of others and be ready to embrace successfully all the opportunities and challenges when they move on to secondary school at age 11.  In delivering our curriculum, we seek to be creative and innovative and to give the children exciting and memorable experiences as they go through the school.

We encourage our children to have a go at things and to develop resilience.  A range of pupil leadership opportunities such as the Team Captains, the Eco Committee and the Communications Committee give children the chance to grow and develop.   We hope that NRPS pupils will develop a great sense of pride in themselves, their achievements and will be responsible citizens in the school and wider community too.  We teach the children about tolerance and to respect differences in society through our RHE and PSHEE programmes.  In October 2017 Ofsted said "The school is effective in promoting pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and preparing them for life in modern Britain."  We know that the personal development of all our children is a significant strength of our school.   We offer children a very broad range of extra curricular and enrichment opportunities including trips such as those to the Welsh Harp Environmental Centre, Kidzania, Junior Citizenship Scheme Canada Villa, Willows Farm as well as in-school visits from Streetwise, Cycle Confident Bike Training and many others.  There are lunchtime and after school activities including podcast club, chess, cookery, fencing, sports, art, drama, Parsha craft, lego, hip-hop and public speaking.   From September 2022, we are offering 1:1 peripatetic instrumental music lessons in piano and violin for children in Years 3 to 6.   We also now offer a LAMDA Speech and Drama  Club working on a Verse and Prose qualifications for children in Years 1 to 6.

Visitors to the school always compliment the children on their good manners and outstanding behaviour.    Middot (good character development) is central to our teaching and expectations.  We have Stars of the Week in Secular and Kodesh every week and those children delight in attending the weekly Head Teacher's Tea Party - an opportunity for me to talk to the children about their successes in the week and school in general.

Our school is a member of the Independent Schools Association (ISA).  The ISA represents almost 600 of the best schools in the independent sector and NRPS is proud to be an ISA member since June 2019.

I look forward to welcoming you into our warm and nurturing family oriented school - a school where your child will absolutely flourish and be encouraged to reach for the stars.  We are in the heart of thriving Hendon.  Come and see us for yourself!

Best wishes,

Anthony Wolfson
